Scene# 9 ( Return to the Barrio)

i enjoyed reading this scene as well, the ending wasnt dramatic or too exciting where i like it. But then the characters all started to argue and it kind of made a turn for the story. I kind of got lost on all the arguments going on but it made since why the author would end it this way.this quote "The realization that if he strikes back or even if he walks out the door, the family bond is irreparably broken." pg 94. Henry starts to think more upon his family and what may happen but second guesses it.

Why do you think the family argued about this topic for?
.

Scene# 8 (The Wining of the War)

This scene was very brief and had alot going on at the same time with the boys getting out of jail and the war ending. The family greeting one another as they all come together to celebrate the "Freedom".page 87. I choose this because theres so much excitement going on that reality has not really set in.

Why do you think the narrarator freed them on this day out of all days?

Prompt #2 ( class page response)

Prompt #2 Unity

Unity is a state of being one or united, and as they got out of jail they stuck by each others side as there famlies greeted them with love and rejoiced of there spirits.Throughout this whole play unity was shown in various situations. Such as Pachucho allways by Henry's side giving him and his gang words of inspiration that they need each other.Alice's character played well in this too by showing her sensitivity and actions for the boys as they were in jail and sending letters to Henry to keep him informed. AS the boys were free there unity started to spread like when George said "I only hope you realize how important you are now" page 87

Scene 7 (Alice)

This scene to me was a little bumpy but as I started to read the letters Alice was sending to Henry made sense and how she was concerned. The quote I chose for it is "Then we'll appeal again. we'll take it to the Supreme Court. Hell we'll take it all the way to President Roosevelt!"page 83. Alice says this to Henry as she visits him, this quote just shows her over all courage and how she cares for him by trying to fight to the end for him to get him out. Its important because it shows how much there friendship has grown and how the trial is going to end. Alice just gets emotional over this whole appeal situation but trying to let Henry's emotions take over her as he's desperate for love.

I dont get why Henry is all of a sudden having feelings for her then talks about her, is he confused?

Scene 6 (Zoot Suit Riots)

This scene was very dramatic with all the issues going on about the zoot suits and the sailors. i actually found this scene interesting as i read over it again I started to imagine the play in my head as the sailors where trying remove his clothing and Henry looking down upon them. the quote i have chosen is "the press distorted the very meaning of the word "zoot suit" all it is another way to say Mexican, but the ideal of the orgin chuco was to look like a diamond to look sharp..." page 80.Pachucho says this to the press because they are calling the Mexicans out of there name and trying to make it seem like a bad name. So Pachucho explains where the word came from to clarify the situation. This quote is important because it shows you how much trouble is going on in L.A. because of this as the sailors strip the zoot suit of of him because there mad there focusing more on the suits than the war.

Why do the sailors need to be so focused on the zoot suiters than there issues?

Scene 5 (Solitary)

Scene 5 to me was very heartbreaking and weird to me because Henry had hope that it will get better for him but Pachucho was bringing him down with all his negative comments towards him. The part I liked was at the end of the scene where you can see Pachucho true anger about the riots occurring and gives you a visual outlook of the place. The quote I picked out was "Stop hanging on to false hopes. The moment these hopes come crashing down, you'll find yourself on the ground foaming at the mouth." (page 78) As Pachucho says this to Henry because he's living in reality thinking he is going to get out when he knows he is not. He doesn't want Henry to go crazy in solitary thinking about it. I think this quote is important because it shows there true feelings and how they miss there family and friends. It makes me see another side of Henry that he has emotions and feelings too.

Why do you think Pachucho is being so negative towards Henry, when Henry is trying to stay positive?
